This week we revived our long-running reading group, partly inspired by London’s Digital Education Reading Group. Our first topic was Innovating Pedagogy 2024 from the Open University. We each read and gave a brief summary of one section, with a little time for questions and discussion. Plenty of food for thought – a really enjoyable and useful conversation. Some recurring themes:
- Potentials of generative AI
- Unknowns, risks and costs of AI
- Inclusion and personalisation
- Exclusion caused by lack of access to technology or the skills to engage successfully
- Creating emotionally safe practice spaces – chatbots for rubber duck debugging
We’re running it online to make it easier for people to join. Though it worked well, it definitely feels like it makes free-flowing discussion slower and more difficult. Looking forward to future meetings and seeing how the format evolves over time.
